Dan

Dan grew up in central Iowa, the son of a newspaperman and a teacher and one of five children. He met his lifelong girlfriend Vicki while they were in high school. Dan met Jesus in October 1975 while a student at Iowa State University. A year later he and Vicki got married. Dan graduated in December 1979 from ISU (Go Cyclones!) with a degree in agricultural journalism. A month later, with their 7-month-old son Ian in tow, Dan and Vicki moved to Southern California as part of a church plant. In the ensuing years, they had three more children — Nick, Katie and Torrey — while Dan worked at a group of local newspapers and then the San Diego Union morning newspaper. In 1991, they moved to Milwaukee where Dan got a job with the Milwaukee Sentinel and later the Journal Sentinel and stayed until 2009 when he took a buyout. In the meantime, they moved to Port Washington in 1993. Dan finished his career at the Sheboyan Press, The Badger Institute and finally the Ozaukee Press in Port Washington. Dan is mostly retired now but still works part-time for the Press reporting on county government.

In his free time, Dan goes for meandering walks, studies family geneaology, tries to make his lawn at least acceptable to the neighbors, likes to read and study the Bible, hangs out with his seven grandchildren and eats as much of the good food that Vicki prepares as he can.

Dan and Vicki began attending Alliance Bible Church in January 2021 and participate in the ABC Seniors Bible Study and a Lakeside Life Group. They are excited about Lakeside Alliance Church and are looking forward to seeing how God will glorify himself in Port Washington, for “your name and renown are the desire of our hearts” — Isaiah 26:8.
